Before teaching online, I spent nearly five years in Asia — three years teaching English in Hong Kong, almost two in South Korea, with studies in Tokyo and travels through Taiwan. Teaching abroad shaped everything about how I approach a lesson: you learn quickly that there is no single "right" way to explain something, and that patience and adaptability matter more than any curriculum.
After returning to the United States I brought that experience online, teaching 1-on-1 for over seven years. Along the way I started taking Japanese lessons myself — and found that the tools available for online teaching were nowhere near good enough. So I built Kyosei, a real-time shared canvas where teacher and student work on the same document together. Yes I Can Learning Lab runs on it.
Outside of teaching I work as a Systems Administrator — so when it comes to IT, I'm teaching from what I actually do every day. And across all my subjects — phonics, reading, writing, science, social studies, world history — the approach is always the same: start where you are, move at your pace, and make sure you leave every session with something real.
